What are Private Lesons

Private Lessons is a program where I come to train you 1 on 1 sessions that cover both behavior issues and obedience.  When it comes to jumping, barking, aggression, anxiety and other horrible issues dogs experience, owners don’t know where to turn to.

Does your dog:

  • Not listen around distractions?
  • Are you afraid something bad will happen?
  • Are you overwhelmed and don't know where to start?

What we do to help is:

  • Set up a training plan for results.
  • Not train by the lessons but by your success.
  • Show you what it's like to have a well mannered dog all the time, everywhere.

How to know if Private Lessons are for you?

Many owners often if the Board and Train or Private Lessons would work for them. I tell them there are a few factors involved that help answer these questions. Sometimes it can be a time restriction issue. Are you going on vacation, house renovated, a baby coming, health issues to recover? Most of the time it can be a personal preference which is perfectly fine as well. I can train the foundation and prepare for the Off Leash in a matter of weeks in my Board and Train program what an owner can get done in a few months with Private Lessons. However, Private Lessons let the owner have that focused one on one time as if they are the trainer themselves. Some people thrive from that and that’s wonderful, I just teach them how to create that foundation and set them on the path to obedience and off leash control.

We still need to use structure and boundaries but the engagement for positive reinforcement and learning conflict-free ways of training is dramatically improving. When owners learn these skills and tap into their dog’s state of mind, training for both in the home and Off Leash control is

When should you start Private Lessons?

Some owners have been told to wait until their dog is fully vaccinated before training, which is far from the truth. What that means is to wait to take your puppy in highly trafficked areas to avoid deadly diseases and viruses. However, puppies can start learning as early as 6 weeks old to sit, wait and meal manners. Puppies at 8 weeks old can start learning independence and create training as they are weaning themselves from their mom. Leash training is also a very important skill to learn because when not done properly, we could have a panicking puppy in our hands. At 12 weeks is when the “fun” toddler stages happen and we get a lot of nipping, chewing, potty issues, and any other growing pains because the puppies are not around their sibling and parents to learn puppy behaviors so they “take it out on us.” SO, forget about the Petco commercial of the puppy frolicking in the fields chasing butterflies, they are chewing on our furniture and digging holes in our planters. We’ve been sold a dream. LOL!

Where do the Private Lessons start?

First, we have a phone consultation to make sure we have a good understanding of what your short- and long-term goals are. Then we make a Behavior Evaluation/ Intake appointment for me to come to you, so we go over the initial changes or introductions that need to be done in the home and get you prepared for out of the home. As the days go on, you will be slowly changing into those plans and making sure you see a progression. You will call me if you don’t. Then we set up weekly lessons until you are ready for the public training and real-world, real-life training. We will also be going over what training tools will be the most effective and least conflictive methods that work for your dog.

What methods do you use?

The bottom line is I will use any tools that are the most effective, less conflictive that your dog will respond to as long as we are getting the results and communication you need. Some owners go into this wanting to use a certain tool trying to achieve certain results when it’s causing more harm than good. I have been training for over two decades now and with the experience working with multiple trainers and close to 4000 dogs, I think I have a good understanding how to watch body language, read responses correctly and give a well put interpretation of what the dog is experiencing and how to properly train them.

Its owners like you that give me the chance to be able to train and continue learning about dogs and their owners. Training families from all over the city gives me a chance to continually improve my skills and teach them as the years go by. I am in constant contact with some of the best knowledgeable trainers around the world and I also freshen up my skills by attending seminars and workshops to gain mor knowledge.

As a local dog trainer in Round Rock and the surrounding Austin area, you will have one on one training specifically designed for how your dog learns and what your dog training goals are. This program is an excellent way to understand where you need to go in your training and finish up a few areas to help eliminate small issues at home and around the neighborhood. For dogs that don't need a behavior overhaul, obedience and behavior management is key to continuing a successful and abundant life with your dog. These one-on-one lessons are held weekly and bi-weekly until you are completely trained, and you also have unlimited email/ phone consult for the dog's life.

As a certified professional dog trainer for over 20 years, I have experienced just about all walks of life from owners and dogs.
